How to get there

Perth Zoo is located at 20 Labouchere Road, South Perth.

Perth Zoo supports Travelsmart methods of travelling in Western Australia. The Zoo is situated just a few kilometres from the CBD which makes a journey by public transport or bicycle pleasant and easy.

Australia Day Parking
Parking is at a premium in South Perth on Australia Day. Rotary Clubs coordinate all car parks in the area and parking is by a $10 donation. Free street parking is available to those who come early but why not take advantage of the extra public transport that has been provided for this special day. Information on public transport can be obtained from the Transperth web site www.transperth.wa.gov.au.

By Bus

From Perth CBD Bus 30 and 31 stop right in front of the Zoo weekdays or weekends, leaving regularly from the Esplanade Busport. Bus 34 stops behind the Zoo and leaves from the Wellington Street Busport.

From the ‘Causeway’ (Victoria Park) Bus 730 and 731 stop at the Zoo.

By Train

Effective 23 December 2007: Currently, the easiest way to visit Perth Zoo by train is to transfer at the Esplanade Busport (Train Platform 1) to Bus 31 (Bus Stand E4) which makes Perth Zoo one of its first stops. The bus stops right out front of the ticket office. The reverse applies when you want to go home.

By Ferry

Perth Zoo is a short walk from the Mends Street Jetty in South Perth. Ferries depart from the Barrack Street Jetty (across the river in Perth) every half-hour during the day, and quarter-hour at peak times.

By Taxi

Any of Perth’s taxi companies can bring you directly to Perth Zoo. These can be hailed on the street or ordered by telephone. Two of Perth’s major taxi companies are:

By Bicycle or On Foot

Safe, dual-use paths (cycle and walking) go around the Swan River from the CBD to South Perth and then it is only a 500m cycle/walk from the river up to Perth Zoo.  Click here to view a map which shows the network of cycle/walking paths which will get you to and from Perth Zoo (you will need to zoom in to see the pathways clearly). A drinking fountain is available just outside of Perth Zoo. Bicycle racks are available at no cost at the entrance to Perth Zoo.  We recommend a lock for your bicycle. (Please note that you cannot take your bicyle, roller-blades, skate-board or other forms of personal transport into Perth Zoo)

By Car

The Zoo is only 5-minute drive from Perth's city centre.

Long-stay parking (1hr to all day) is available in three parking lots:

  • opposite the Zoo (Cnr Labouchere & Richardson Rds) FREE all day
  • next to the Zoo (off Labouchere Road) PAID by the hour
  • next to the Zoo (off Mill Point Road) PAID per park

Short-stay parking is available on the streets surrounding Perth Zoo (FREE).

The Zoo offers 13 ACROD parking bays within 100m of the entrance. ACROD stickers will need to be clearly displayed and current. Disability parking is free in the free car parks but incurs standard fees in the paid carparks.
